Project
For our project on The Most Dangerous Game, we decided to do a map on what we imagined as Ship Trap Island would look like. Within this project we also explained the importance of the different places included in the map and what relation they had to the main character, Sanger Rainsford.
Importance of Places Explanation:
In the Most Dangerous Game, a man named Sanger Rainsford is on board a Yacht in the area of an island with some spooky tales it's known for. He hears a gun shot and leans over the railing of the boat to see where it came from. When he hears a second shot and leans too far forward, he falls into the waiting water's grasp. He swims to where he had heard the gun shot and sees an island in sight. Once he is safe on shore, he rests until morning and sets on exploring the island. The dotted lines on the map represent his path. Rainsford comes across a castle looking building with lots of light. At first, Sanger thinks it is a mirage but upon opening the giant iron gates, he realizes it is real. He is greeted at the door by a giant, deaf man named Ivan. Rainsford finds out that the man who lives there is General Zaroff, who is also a hunter like him. He is given hospitality in this castle and is also given some unsettling news...this man, General Zaroff has become bored of hunting and found that hunting other human beings is the best game yet and Rainsford is about to be one. This castle like building serves as Sanger's freedom of this cruel game and relief from the man who caused it. The big tree serves as Rainsford's first hiding place that allows him to narrowly escape from being caught by General Zaroff. The Malay Man catcher serves as Sanger's first good hunting skill shown, he shows that he can be quite a challenge to Zaroff and that maybe there is hope of surviving this. The fallen log that is nearby the Malay Man catcher serves as Rainsford's second hiding place that also serves as hope that he may survive since Zaroff didn't know exactly where he was, just that he was nearby. The Death Swamp serves an idea trigger after Sanger steps in the quick sand and manages to escape, he finds yet another trap learned from hunting to try and save his skin. He then kills off one of Zaroff's dogs proving that he can possibly win this. And lastly, when Rainsford creates a trick he learned from Uganda, he unfortunately kills the wrong person he was hoping for, but it still got rid of one person, Ivan, whom he would have had to deal with after beating Zaroff, if he did that is. And finally, the sea represents his freedom and carrier, it takes him to place he needs to go most. So, in the end, the sea takes him to the chateau where the castle/building lies and he wins the most dangerous game.
