The story the fallen angel is about a small town circus owned by Anthony Mullins. One day, a man named Angeli joins the circus. He is a trapeze artist that is known for doing his act, and falling in it. He always miraculously survives, but Anthony noticed something different about Angeli.
The objective here is to write a parody of the short story The Fallen Angel by Evan Hunter. We decided upon something that still included a mythical creature of the type, but instead of circus acts, we were diving in the water....
The Sinking Diver One day whilst I was sitting by the pool doing paperwork, my star divers practiced swimming laps for the last time before the big performance. Suddenly, there was a movement in back of me. When I looked up, there was a short and plump man standing behind me with a bright yellow swimming cap. “Mr. Sullins?” He asked me, while looking around the pool. “That is me, I am very busy right now...” I replied, focusing on my work. “I will be very quick,” He promised. “I am still busy.” “My name is Octobian Mermani.” “And I am Anthony Sullins, now I am quite busy so...” “I am a professional diver.” “I already have 3 divers, but I know a few other swimming agencies that are hiring” “I am Octobian Mermani, your other divers are not.” “Well, I suppose so, but nevertheless, I don’t need any more divers.” “No, really, I promise I will not disappoint.” “Fine, there is a diving board over there, it is quite high though, would you like a shorter one?” “No, that will be just fine. Although, I have had higher.” He said smiling. He then waltzed over to the ladder leading to the diving board and heaved himself up the rungs. He then slowly made his way to the end, slightly lowering the board by quite a few inches. He then began bouncing up and down before calling, “I will now perform a double somersault jump and then go into a dive.” And he jumped up, did two somersaults and faced lined up vertically with the water. An easy move, I thought to myself. He quickly plummeted to the water’s cold barrier and disappeared into the frigid abyss. He made a huge splash, which spread out onto the side walkways of the pool, creating huge waves. As I waited for his return to the surface, I began to worry about him. How long was it that he had been down there? It seemed like at least a minute and a half, and I quickly beckoned for the lifeguard. Then I saw a figure rushing to the surface, and out popped Mr. Mermani, still breathing. He paddled over to me and flung himself onto the pavement. He was surprisingly not out of breath. Words began spilling out of me like a fountain, “Are you okay, do you need me to call someone? Let me get the lifeguard...” “How did you like the sinking?” “The what?” “It really seemed like I was drowning wasn't it?” “You meant to do that?” “Well of course, no professional diver wouldn't be able to survive that dive.” “But why?” “Well, you see, people are inherently evil, it entertains them to watch me almost drown.” Just then, the lifeguard finally showed up and exclaimed, “What’s the problem?” “Oh, I uh, just wanted to tell you I hired a new diver.” For the next couple of hours, I sat there watching him dive over and over. Sometimes he’d only be down for a couple of minutes, other times he would stay down for much longer. It was crazy, almost inhuman how he could stay under the water for so long. Then came the night of the first performance, there was a decent crowd, a normal amount for an evening like this. My synchronized swimmers did their normal routine, but the audience seemed bored. Next, my three divers came out and did some amateur to mildly intermediate tricks and forms, but the audience wasn’t very impressed by that either. Saved for last, I announced our new diver, Octobian Mermani with a huge Laddddiiieeessss annnddd Gentuuullmmmennn, we have a new diver, Octobian Mermani who will be performing on a 50 ft. diving board to allow space for a triple somersault into a beautiful swan dive! That seemed to get the crowd on the edges of their seats, but they still looked like they were about ready to leave. After what seemed like forever, with many refusals to investigate from the lifeguards, Octobian popped out of the water smiling. Everyone stood there in shock for a few moments then burst into cheer. Everyone was astonished and I watched him, but still couldn't figure out how he wasn't even out of breath. At the next show, some of the same audience were there, but there were tons of others looking to see if all the rumors about Octobian being under the water for what seemed like ages was true. I went through the normal routine as before and once again the audience was bored. When I brought Octobian out, some people clapped and whistled, others just looked expectantly, waiting to see if what they heard was true. Octobian climbed up, did a twirl off the board and then took the form of a hard belly flop that looked like it hurt and may have caused many other divers to be in so much pain that they almost drown. This time, Octobian stayed under for a record breaking 30 minutes! The crowd applauded, whistled, screamed, and were so shocked. After Octobian switching up the times of how long he stays under or if he even stays under, resulted in having the same people come again and again to watch him do wonders. He really has this down, and every time he smiles and shows that he enjoys having people watch him almost drown. Now that business was booming, there was a question I have been wanting to ask one of my divers since forever ago. So, now that I had more money, as did everyone else, I figured I could ask her now. I said, “Lenor, there has been something I have wanted to ask you for a while and now that I have more money, I can have a right to ask-” “Don’t, what could have been could have been, but now it’s different. Octobian, he’s everything I want and he’s amazing. I’m sorry Anthony.” I was upset, but understood, but it didn’t help that I had to shorten the show to get the audience to see what they want to see, Octobian. So, I paired up Lenor and Octobian and I no longer wanted to watch Octobian’s act. Since I was a little boy, I have dreamed of being a big swimming coach and owner and now that I have a good act and more money, I decided to get in contact with the bigger companies. So, I sent the bigger owners/coaches letters regarding my consent in which they should see the amazing Octobian and come to our daily Friday show. But on one condition, Octobian was my performer/diver and he works for me, so, they couldn’t take him as their own. On the big night, the big showman were there and tons of people once again. I was starting to get nervous, so, to shorten the show and make the big shots happy, I put all of our divers together in one act. Octobian came up to me and asked, “What if I don’t stay under tonight?” “What do you mean? Of course you’ll stay under!” I replied. “Well, If I sink tonight, you have to promise me something.” “Okay, but what?” “You have to shake on it, but I can’t tell you until you do. But I can promise you won’t miss it very much. And it is of no worth to you, I guarantee it.” I thought why not and shook on it. Then I asked him what it was. He said, “Your feet!” As he smiled and left for the show preparations, I turned white and Lenor walked in and said, “I’m sorry, I was listening in and we have to do something!” I agreed and when the performance started, my divers came out and Octobian did too. They all did simple dives or intermediate tricks, but when Octobian’s turn came, I was nervous. He did a jump that turned into a normal spring dive. When he splashed in the water, Lenor grabbed his hands and started to twirl like in the synchronized swimmer’s routines. Octobian no longer held a smile and was struggling to be set free. Next, Matthew, my other diver grabbed his feet and did some more swimming tricks from other routines. Then all my divers came and grabbed on to him and pulled him on their shoulders(very surprisingly). Then, they brought him to the ladder and they got out still with a tight grip on his wrists. I was so relieved, but when he walked up to me with his angry face, he said, “You tricked me!!! You tricked me!!!” And then he dove into the water and his legs were fins and he swam to the other edge and was taken away in a tidal current. |
