Yesterday I attended the new horror film, The Landlady. The movie was based of of the short story by Roald Dahl. The story is a suspenseful movie that highlights the fact that everything is not always as it seems.
The movie begins as a boy named Billy Weaver arrives at a town named Bath and deals with the predicament of finding a good hotel to stay at. After making a impulse decision, Billy finds himself at the door of a cozy bed and breakfast. When he enters he is greeted by a kind landlady and an unbelievable price of staying there. As Billy settles into his new place, he notices that their is something off about the landlady and her bed and breakfast.
I thought it had an interesting story but It had a couple of issues. First of all, the main character Billy is very static and boring. I wish the movie had more about him and his life so the viewers could get to know him better. Secondly, the story is very predictable because of the foreshadowing from the beginning. The story doesn't have many plot twists as well. These aspects hindered the success of the movie.
Even though the story had some flaws, the story also had some good points. I liked the way the movie ended leaving the reader thinking about the movie and allowing them to come to whatever conclusions they want. The movie was also interesting and was generally enjoyable to watch, although I couldn't help but feel like I was constantly waiting for a plot twist.
So, in conclusion, the movie was generally interesting and had a good idea to its creation, but there were many flaws that made it unsuccessful. Overall, I would rate this movie a 3 out of 5 stars.
